Become a USA Rugby Coach: Your Path to Coaching Success!
At the “Coaches Corner,” our mission is to empower coaches like you to reach their full potential in rugby. Whether you’re looking to get started or level up your coaching skills, USA Rugby offers a clear, step-by-step pathway to becoming a certified coach. Here’s a quick guide to help you navigate your way!
Step 1: Get Certified & Stay Compliant:
To coach rugby in the U.S., you need to meet a few basic requirements to ensure player safety and coaching integrity:
USA Rugby Membership: Register as a coach for the current season.
SafeSport Certification: Annual completion (18+ years).
Background Check: Every 2 years (18+ years).
Rugby’s Safety Basics: Complete two online courses on safety and concussion management.
Coaching Accreditations: Get qualified with one of USA Rugby’s coaching programs.
The Coaching Certifications:
From beginner to pro, there’s a coaching level for everyone. Here’s a breakdown:
1. Non-Contact Coach: (Online Learning)
Who it’s for: Coaches who work with non-contact formats (e.g., tag, touch, flag rugby).
What you’ll do: Complete 4 online courses on World Rugby’s Passport website and upload your certificates.
Cost: Varies
How to get started: Contact your club to enroll.
2. Level 1 Coach: (In-Person, formerly L200)
Who it’s for: Coaches who teach tackling and contact rugby.
What you’ll do: Attend an 8-hour in-person course and complete pre-course online training. You’ll learn safe player development, coaching techniques, and more.
Cost: $125.

3. Level 2 Coach: (In-Person, formerly L300)
Who it’s for: Coaches with at least 1 year of Level 1 experience, focusing on adult player development.
What you’ll do: A 16-hour in-person course with in-depth skill development and program building.

4. Level 3 Coach: (In-Person, formerly L400)
